Hi.

Welcome to our renovation blog. We document our adventures in renovation, travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Clearing the old feature walls

Clearing the old feature walls

Despite the house being built in 1856, there haven't been that many owners or occupiers... according to Ancestry and the census records.

The owners before us had been in the house around 60 years and the gentleman managed the local cement works outside the village. Now, I like cement as much as the next person but the amount of huge cast stone around the garden has been a huge challenge to deal with. We'll keep some of it as features, especially in the lovely little front garden, but in the back, low walls will serve a hindrance to both the building work and the functionality of space going forward.

Although, these little walls are great fun for Aura to sit ontop of and antagonise Apollo, aswell as serving as a great perch to sit and sit coffee in the early morning light.

We kept a few pieces of the cement copings in the event that building work impacts the stones on the front wall or sides... but they are certainly hefty pieces!

Then, got to work on controlled demolition...

The spiders and creepy crawlies which scuttled out from the brickwork was to say the least a little terrifying.

It's now cleared and the space feels considerably more open and light just with the little walls gone. The next step is the driveway and preparations are underway for that with dimensions marked out.
